Where It All Began
There's a particular kind of stillness you only find in the outback.
The vast red earth of Alice Springs stretching out in every direction, the dry warmth of the Northern Territory air, the faint sweetness of native plants carried on the breeze at dusk. It's the kind of place that gets into your bones. And no matter where life takes you, it never really leaves.
That feeling — that deep, grounding connection to the Australian landscape — is exactly what I wanted to bottle. So, I did. Just not literally.
Outback Candle Co was born from a simple but powerful idea: that a scent can carry you somewhere. That lighting a candle in your living room could, for just a moment, transport you to the wide-open spaces of the Territory. To the ancient, untamed beauty that most of the world has never seen — but deserves to be experienced.
Why Candles?
The way a flame changes the energy of a room. The way a scent can unlock a memory you didn't even know you were holding onto.
When I started exploring the world of Australian candles, I noticed something missing. Most were beautiful, yes — but they felt disconnected from the land they claimed to represent. I wanted something more honest. More rooted.
So I started experimenting in my kitchen in Alice Springs, testing wax blends, sourcing fragrance oils, and learning everything I could about the craft. What I landed on was something I'm genuinely proud of Beesoy wax blend — a combination of beeswax and soy that burns cleaner, longer, and richer than standard paraffin candles.
If you've been searching for beesoy candles in Australia that are actually made here, with care, by hand — that's exactly what we are.
Small-Batch, By Design
Every candle I make is hand-poured in small batches. That's not a marketing line — it's just how I work. I can make around 40 candles a day, and I pour every single one myself.
That means every 300g candle that leaves my hands has been made with intention. The scents are inspired by real places — like our Kakadu Plum fragrance, which draws on the wild, citrusy brightness of one of Australia's most iconic native fruits. These aren't generic scents dressed up with outback names. They're genuine attempts to capture something true about this landscape.
When people talk about Australian scented candles, I want Outback Candle Co to be the name that comes to mind — not because we're the biggest, but because we're the most authentic.
More Than a Candle Brand
I'll be honest with you: starting a business solo is hard. There are long days, quiet doubts, and moments where you wonder if anyone else will love what you've made as much as you do.
But then a message comes in from someone who says the Kakadu Plum candle reminded them of a camping trip they took years ago. Or a customer tells me they bought one for their mum because she grew up in the Territory and misses it every day.
That's why I do this.
Outback Candle Co isn't just about selling soy candles in Australia. It's about sharing a piece of a place that shaped me — and hoping it resonates with you too. Whether you're an outback local, an Aussie living far from home, or simply someone who loves beautiful, natural things, there's a place for you here.
